Samsung has launched lot of phones this year but all of them have something common- they’re pretty big. Samsung loves to bring phones with large and immersive displays for there customers, but the company also knows that there are people who still prefer compact phones. This is why we have the Samsung Galaxy A40 they are the most compact and affordable mid-range smartphone that went official in Netherland last month with a price of EUR 249 (approx Rs. 19,500).
The Samsung Galaxy A40 comes in an all plastic body with Black, White, Coral and Blue colour options. The screen measures just 5.9 inch diagonal with the screen resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. The aspect ratio is 19:5:9 and the pixel density is around 437ppi. The weight of the phone is just 140 grams because of its material used.
All the phones from the new Galaxy A series comes with Android v.9.0 (Pie). The Samsung Galaxy A40 is powered by one of the most powerful and mid-range chipset- the Exynos 7885. It accommodates an Octa-Core CPU with 2x Cortex- A73 Core clocked at 1.77 GHz and 6x Cortex- A53 Core clocked at 1.59 GHz. For graphically intensive tasks, the SoC relies on the Mali- G71 MP2 GPU which is also good.
When it comes to memory the phone comes only in one option- 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage but you can expand with MicroSD card uptown 512GB.
The phone carries a dual-camera setup consisting of a 16 MP main snapper with f/1.7 and secondary ultra wide- angle 5 MP f/2.2 lens. And on the front, we find a 25 MP snapper with f/2.0 and Samsung claims that selfies are one of the best in the class. The Main camera can only record up to full HD (1080p) at 30 fps and the same goes for the wide angle unit. But if you want 4k video recording, you can download any third party camera app from play store and enjoy 2160p recording.
The phone has a single bottom-firing speaker, which is a standard for phones in this price range. Now when I talk about battery life then it is definitely not one of the strongest part of the Galaxy A40 it is a weak point either. The 3,100mAh unit didn’t deliver the runtimes expected. Still, an overall 73h endurance rating is fairly dependable so you will probably squeeze out a full day of moderate usage.
